Oscar The King of Fetch

Our feline boy Oscar loves to play fetch with me in the mornings.  When he was a kitten, he taught himself this game… day I had tossed one of his toys, thinking he’d go chase it. Before I knew it, there he was dropping the toy at my feet with an invitational “meeeuuww?”  I threw it again and the game was on.  That was 5 years ago; it is now our morning ritual.

For Oscar, one of the most important parts of this game is the “Good Boy!” he gets from me each time he brings the toy back.  The praise and genuine adoration he receives is just as important to him as the play itself.  Like us, animals thrive on positive reinforcement, gaining the same sense of worth and satisfaction we do…benefiting from genuine love in all it’s forms.

Thank you for this timely reminder about the importance of praise Debra (also, I must say that I LOVE seeing cats sitting on kitchen counters!)

Thank you Mary! When not playing fetch, Oscar’s favorite place is on the counter where he and his brother are busy talking with each other and the rest of the family!
