animal communication

There are some animals (as well as people) who just have that special presence….the ones who turn heads and gain attention simply by entering the room.  They are also more often than not, the ones who don’t try to put on airs….they simply radiate a kind of energy that is delicious and magnetic.

This weekend, I photographed a horse who lives at the ranch where Remington is….he was participating in a local Dressage Show.  I know this horse; I’ve spent many sessions talking with him.  He is kind, complicated, devoted to his person, powerful, soulful…and he has that presence….there is just something about him that makes you want to get to know him.

In spite of his overwhelming size (his huge, muscular body can at first be intimidating), he has a tender vulnerability about him.  He wants, more than anything….to be understood.  He feels deeply about things, he worries about being spooked, he likes to be needed and he is sometimes uncomfortable with being so big.  I am captivated with him and he knows it.

Animals teach us that what lies beneath the surface is what’s important.  Sometimes that special presence we feel when we meet someone…be it animal or person….is simply an invitation to look deeper for the soft, sweet and kindred spirit that dwells within us all.
